Even though we are in May, the news around the NFL never seems to stop. With the bulk of free agency done and the 2025 NFL draft in the rearview mirror, the majority of teams' rosters are put together.

In free agency, safety Justin Reid decided to leave Kansas City and joined the New Orleans Saints. He got a three-year, $31.5 million deal with $22.2 million guaranteed. Even though Reid is from Louisiana, the news that was revealed on Saturday has to have him rethinking his decision.

According to Ian Rapoport, Saints QB Derek Carr is retiring. He was dealing with a shoulder injury that needs surgery, which would end his 2025 season. Rapoport added that Carr got an injection and tried rehab, but decided retirement is the route he wants to take.

NFL News: Derek Carr is Going to Retire

Despite Carr's inconsistent play, he was their best option at QB. Over 169 career games, he completed 65.1% of his throws for 41,245 passing yards, 257 passing touchdowns, and 112 interceptions.

This news leaves rookie Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener in the Saints' quarterback room. The Saints took Shough with the 40th overall pick, and he likely has the inside track to being QB1 in 2025.

That is a huge step back from playing with Patrick Mahomes and being on a title contender. Reid secured two Super Bowl championships over three seasons in Kansas City. In 49 games with the Chiefs, the Stanford product supplied 265 total tackles, 23 pass breakups, and three interceptions.

He still has the skills to be an effective safety for New Orleans, but he shouldn't expect to win much in 2025. The Saints are headed towards a rebuild year this fall, while the Chiefs are looking to bounce back from their Super Bowl 59 defeat and have a talented roster ready to do so.
