The Kansas City Chiefs finished OTAs with reason for encouragement at the receiver position. While the future of Rashee Rice remains murky, Mahomes is continuing to build chemistry with Hollywood Brown, and rookie receiver Jalen Royals is quickly shooting up the team's depth chart. Still, the team would be wise to look at possible depth upgrades. Bringing in a big-bodied receiver to help with the team's blocking scheme and provide an underrated target would be the best move until the team knows what the future holds for Rice.

With this in mind, the best signing that fits this description would be a former Chief.

Veteran receiver Chris Conley remains a free agent after spending the last two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. Conley is a depth piece who is a willing blocker and spent the best season of his career with the Chiefs. While it has been a long time since Conley was in Kansas City, it is time for the two sides to consider a reunion and improve the team's depth at the position.

Former Chiefs WR Chris Conley Would Be a Great Summer Signing

The second-best season of Conley's career was in 2016 with the Chiefs when the veteran finished with 530 receiving yards. While it appears this type of production is well behind the veteran, there is still reason to make the move. You can sign the receiver without having to give any type of deal that is going to lock away a roster spot.

It is simply added security of an experienced veteran in case the myriad of young options the Chiefs have added to the position don't pan out. Signing the veteran receiver is about adding another name to compete for the final roster spot and bringing back a familiar face to Kansas City.

Since leaving the Chiefs, Conley has spent time with the Jaguars, Texans, Titans, and 49ers. Each landing spot has seen up-and-down production dependent on how many targets the offense is capable of giving the limited receiver. For Kansas City, it is a signing without risk that adds further depth and continues to ease concerns at the position.
