The 2025 season is fast approaching for the Kansas City Chiefs. After completing their second preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks on Friday night, several players on the roster bubble are making their case to start the season with the team and some may have already won their spot.
But while several Chiefs players are making the final push, it’s not a unique situation. Another player that used to call Kansas City home solidified his case with a strong performance in a preseason game on Sunday afternoon and it may have helped him earn a job with his new team.

Former Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire May Have Won a Job with Saints
Clyde Edwards-Helaire is beginning a new chapter in his career with the New Orleans Saints and it may turn into more than just a simple homecoming for the LSU product. In Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Edwards-Helaire ran four times for 12 yards and made a pair of catches for 16 yards, causing Sports Étouffée’s Logan Graffia to speculate that Edwards-Helaire has won the RB3 job.
It would be a positive development for Edwards-Helaire, who was selected by the Chiefs with the 32nd overall pick in the 2020 draft. While he began his career by running for 138 yards and a touchdown in his first career game, he never lived up to the hype after running for 803 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season.
Edwards-Helaire finished with 1,845 yards and 12 touchdowns while catching 89 passes for 765 yards and seven touchdowns in his four years in Kansas City. But he battled injuries throughout his time with the Chiefs including hip, ankle, knee and shoulder ailments. He also missed most of the 2024 season after experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder due to a self-defense shooting incident in 2018 and was released by the team at the end of the year.
While Edwards-Helaire spent the last two games of the 2024 season with the Saints, he wasn’t a lock to win a spot on the roster. Alvin Kamara is still the starter in New Orleans entering his age-30 season and Kendre Miller is in line for the backup role. Cam Akers was also brought in this season, but Sunday’s performance could open the door for Edwards-Helaire to earn a spot and perhaps make a big comeback in 2025.
