Former Chiefs Defender Released Before Week 8

As the NFL season progresses toward the halfway point, teams around the league continue to make roster moves. With the trade deadline right around the corner, these moves will only increase in regularity as teams round out their roster for the second half of the season.
One of these moves involved a former Chiefs player on Saturday. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Cleveland Browns waived cornerback Kahlef Hailassie ahead of their Week 8 matchup against the Ravens. With this move, they made room to activate offensive lineman Wyatt Teller.
NFL News: Browns Release CB Kahlef Hailassie
Hailassie first signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent after the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite signing a three-year, $2.7 million contract with Kansas City, he was waived at the final roster cuts on August 29.
Before being waived, Hailassie played in three preseason games for the Chiefs, recording eight tackles and an interception.
The talented defender was immediately claimed off waivers by the Browns and spent the last 1.5 seasons there. In 10 games, he played in 105 defensive and 110 special teams snaps. After finding more playing time last season, Hailassie found it harder to see the field this season.
The 23-year-old spent his collegiate years at Oregon and Western Kentucky, making second-team All-Conference for the Hilltoppers.
The six-foot-one defender will now try to continue his pro career on a new team, most likely on a practice squad before he can re-establish himself as an NFL-caliber cornerback.
