Former Chief Hints at Reunion Interest on Twitter
The Kansas City Chiefs are fresh off of a rousing win in Week 10 to keep their undefeated record intact. While there's plenty of excitement following a victory like that, some are more concerned with how the team will bolster its roster amid its current injury issues.
Left tackle is one clear position that could use reinforcements after starter Wanya Morris went down on Sunday and rookie Kingsley Suamataia struggled in his absence.
That's led to speculation that Kansas City could pursue a reunion with Super Bowl starter Donovan Smith, and now the man himself has weighed in on the conversation.
Smith, who won championships with both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chiefs this past decade, was asked by a KC fan on Twitter if he was available to help the team out. Smith promptly replied with a gif of a person shrugging in a somewhat-optimistic manner.
The fact Smith even addressed a Chiefs reunion at all is a positive sign regarding the two sides partnering once again. Smith's response clearly wasn't a no, either, so that seems to indicate interest in re-signing.
The nine-year NFL veteran is the best choice for Andy Reid to strengthen his offensive line down the stretch of the season. Championship experience aside, Smith was a perennial starter while he was active in the league, going a perfect 136-for-136 across his all-time appearances in regular-season games.
Smith still remaining on the market to this point certainly raises some eyebrows, but it's possible he's just held out for a better landing spot or offer in terms of role/compensation. That could complicate things for the Chiefs, or work in their favor if they're dead set on bringing Smith back and willing to give him whatever he wants to ensure he returns to Arrowhead.
