Former Chief Hints Andy Reid Isn't Happy With Several Players After Texans Win
By Joe Summers
It's AFC Championship week in Kansas City as the Chiefs get set to host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday for the right to advance to another Super Bowl. This is setting up to be another classic matchup between two of the best teams in the NFL, though the Bills do have one key advantage that Chiefs coaches need to account for.
Kansas City's offensive line has, to put it mildly, not been up to its usual standard. There's been a rotating cast of characters at left tackle. Meanwhile, moving Joe Thuney outside from guard has stabilized things, the unit still struggled against the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round.
Head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media on Monday. On the surface, he sounds relatively pleased. But according to former Chiefs All-Pro RT Mitchell Schwartz, Reid isn't happy.
Former Chiefs RT Mitchell Schwartz Suggests Andy Reid Unhappy With Offensive Line
Schwartz played five seasons under Reid in Kansas City, earning All-Pro honors four times. A Super Bowl champion, he's one of the more accomplished offensive linemen in franchise history. At the very least, he's qualified to translate what the legendary coach is saying.
"I thought our guys held up well," Reid said. "We did some good things in the run game and our pass-play game. All around it was good considering who we were playing against."
Most saw Reid's comments and shrugged them off, but Schwartz took to social media to reveal that Reid was actually displeased. Reid never publicly throws players under the bus, typically supporting them and pointing to things they do well.
However, it may be a different story behind closed doors. Patrick Mahomes was sacked three times on Saturday and under constant duress throughout the contest as the Chiefs' offense struggled. Reid knows that type of effort won't be good enough to beat the Bills, so getting better offensive line play is a critical focal point during preparation this week.
Either way, Kansas City is a 1.5-point favorite at FanDuel Sportsbook. If the Chiefs do advance, they'll take either the Philadelphia Eagles or Washington Commanders for a shot at a historic three-peat.
