The Kansas City Chiefs are officially done with the preseason, and now it's time to look ahead to roster cutdown day coming on Tuesday, as the front office and coaching staff now must decide what players will be on the final 53-man roster.
Quarterback is always an interesting position at this time of year, and numerous teams are looking for a long-term option, whether it's from a starting perspective or a backup angle. Kansas City has cycled through backup signal callers during the Patrick Mahomes era, and bringing Gardner Minshew in represents another example of that trend.
Last year's backup, Carson Wentz, remains a free agent. However, he may have just landed an opportunity just as time was running out.

Former Chiefs QB Carson Wentz May Land Job with Vikings
According to ESPN's Lindsey Thiry, ex-Chiefs quarterback Carson Wentz worked out for the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. This is the first reported workout he's had in the preseason, which not only suggests how limited his market is but also shows that the 32-year-old former MVP candidate is on his last legs in the NFL.
Wentz, originally a second-overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, spent last year with the Chiefs but wasn't impressive during his limited playing time. His Week 18 start against the Denver Broncos was an unmitigated disaster, as he was sacked five times and the offense failed to look like even a Canadian Football League unit.
That's not necessarily Wentz's fault, but it does indicate how far he's fallen from grace. This is someone who, traditionally, would be a priority addition for any team's quarterback room. That he's not suggests what the league thinks of him and how dire his current circumstances are.
Minnesota has a second-year starter in J.J. McCarthy, who missed all of last season with a torn ACL. Bringing in someone with Wentz's experience makes things easier for a young player with no professional experience.
The question is whether or not Wentz, who has a reputation as a poor locker room presence, can be the kind of leader the organization needs. For all his talents, he may not be the best person to guide McCarthy to success in Kevin O'Connell's system.
After a surprise Sunday trade by the Eagles to snag Sam Howell, Wentz is the best option available. Like it, love it, or hate it, he's your guy if you're looking for a quarterback addition.
Regardless, the Vikings are clearly interested and if this doesn't work out, Wentz may be sitting on the couch in 2025.
