Former Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy made waves on Thursday following the news that he'd leave UCLA with the intention of returning to the NFL in 2025.

Fans have begged for Bieniemy's return given the offense's struggles under Matt Nagy and now, Kansas City has an opportunity to bring Bieniemy home.

He was one of the architects of Patrick Mahomes' unprecedented rise early in his career. It's hard to know who is most to thank for Mahomes' surge, though Bieniemy is on the short list.

Former Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy Reveals New Coaching Plan

Bieniemy and UCLA, his previous stop, mutually parted ways. The entire time, the idea was that he'd move from the college ranks back to the professional ones. Despite some media reporting that he was fired, this was the plan all along.

During his tenure as Kansas City's offensive coordinator from 2018-2022, Bieniemy has consistently been disrespected by his peers.

This is a brilliant offensive mind with an established track record of success. Why he's constantly disrespected is a conversation for another day, but Bieniemy made it clear with these comments that he intends to coach in the NFL again.

Whether or not you believe that Nagy or Bieniemy should be the Chiefs' offensive coordinator, it's clear that duo works with Andy Reid. Bieniemy has always deserved a head coaching position. That he hasn't gotten one speaks more to the NFL's inability to identify true talent than anything else.

We'll find out whether or not Bieniemy earns a job at the professional ranks again. The Chiefs should welcome him with open arms. Hopefully, he could give this offense the juice it's sorrowfully lacked since he left.

Bieniemy is one of the best in the business at demanding accountability. Most NFL teams aren't suited for his brand of coaching, yet Kansas City certainly is.

Reid should welcome him back with open arms as an advisor through the playoffs. Bieniemy deserves more opportunities and the teams who rejected him are once again looking in the mirror wondering what went wrong.
