The Kansas City Chiefs have made changes to their coaching staff to begin the offseason, which included bringing back Eric Bieniemy, who was hired as the offensive coordinator. With the Chiefs moving on from Matt Nagy, they brought in a familiar face.
Bieniemy spent the 2025 season with the Chicago Bears as the running backs coach, and his tenure there was a success, as both D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai thrived under his watch.
With that in mind, the idea of Swift being a trade target might be appealing to Bieniemy and general manager Brett Veach this offseason.
Potential D'Andre Swift Trade Should Be on Chiefs' Offseason Radar
Despite being in Chicago for just one season, Bieniemy made an impact on Swift. The former Georgia standout posted career-highs in rushing yards (1,087), rushing touchdowns (9), and rushing yards per game (67.9). He also logged 4.9 yards per rush. While Ben Johnson called plays, Swift played his best football under Bieniemy's guidance.
That was a big jump from the previous season, where Swift averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 2024. The reason why Swift might be available is the Bears' cap situation. According to Spotrac, Chicago has $3.6 million available in cap space.
If Chicago moved on from Swift this offseason, it would create $7.5 million in cap space. That could go a long way for this team. The Bears also have Kyle Monangai on the roster, who posted 783 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in his rookie campaign. Considering that he's waiting in the wings and the Bears would save money from moving off Swift, the Chiefs would be a good landing spot.
It's no secret that Kansas City needs more production from the running back room in 2026. Swift would fill that hole and is only signed through the 2026 campaign, as his cap hit is $8.8 million. That's a reasonable deal for a player who has history and success under the offensive coordinator.
Not only has Swift been productive as a ball carrier, but he can make plays as a pass catcher. Over six seasons in the NFL, he has compiled 217 catches for 2,097 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
This would be the kind of move that raises the floor of the Chiefs' backfield. Bieniemy's time in Chicago was a success, and the idea of bringing over one of their most productive players has to be enticing.
His price tag isn't crazy, and it wouldn't take more than a Day 3 pick to get the deal done. Brett Veach and Andy Reid have their work cut out for them to fix the RB situation. But Swift is an option they should consider, especially with his connection to Bieniemy.
