Eagles Reveal Hilariously Bad Plan to Prepare for Travis Kelce
By Joe Summers
There is no real way to guard Kansas City Chiefs superstar TE Travis Kelce, especially in the playoffs. All you can truly do is hope and pray, but that won't stop the Philadelphia Eagles from trying ahead of next Sunday's Super Bowl matchup.
Kelce is perhaps the most decorated postseason pass-catcher in NFL history. With a strong game and a three-peat, it'd be hard to deny him the throne. He's the focal point of the Chiefs' passing attack, so Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio needs to draw up his best game plan possible to slow the future Hall of Famer down.
New video emerged on Friday of Philly's defense practicing defending tight ends. In a hilarious turn of events, the Eagles elected to use the 40-year-old Brent Celek, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2017.
Eagles Using Tight End Who Retired in 2018 to Practice Guarding Travis Kelce
Just read that sentence out loud and recognize the absurdity, particularly considering that Washington Commanders TE Zach Ertz just caught 11 passes for 104 yards against this defense in the NFC title game.
As the great Morgan Freeman put it, good luck.
Prior to the victory over the Buffalo Bills, Kelce had 14 consecutive playoff games with 70+ receiving yards. During that span, he had 14 total TDs. Kelce caught all six of his targets for 81 yards and a score when these teams met for a Lombardi Trophy two years ago, so he's used to torching the Eagles.
The Bills decided to bracket Kelce, which let guys like Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Kareem Hunt have big days. Philadelphia has to choose between committing extra resources to Kelce or trying to cover everyone else. It's a bad situation to be in, and that's exactly why using Celek to practice is such an absurd decision.
Celek had two career seasons with at least 700 receiving yards. Kelce has 11 straight with at least 823. If this is Nick Sirianni's plan, Chiefs Kingdom is grateful.
To no one's surprise based on this information, FanDuel Sportsbook has the Chiefs listed as 1.5-point favorites with -130 odds on the moneyline.
