Creed Humphrey was utterly disrespected by the NFL’s top 100 ranking

The Chiefs center inexplicably came in at No. 94 in the NFL's top 100 ranking from the 2025 season.

Ever since Patrick Mahomes became the Kansas City Chiefs' full-time starter in 2018, building up the offensive line has been a priority every offseason. General manager Brett Veach has exhausted his resources at the position in order to keep the best quarterback in the world as clean as can be in the pocket.

And in the 2021 NFL Draft, Veach hit on one of his best draft picks in his time at KC. Drafted 63rd overall in the second round, out of the University of Oklahoma, Creed Humphrey has been a stalwart at center and an absolute wrecking ball for opposing defenses to deal with.

And this past season may have been his very best. Despite playing in a Chiefs offense that was not schematically creative or efficient, with no run game and limited receiving weapons, Humphrey shooed all that to the side and made sure that he did his job to the utmost elite level. Which is why it's so hard to explain how he could have ranked as the 94th best player of the 2025 season based on the NFL's top 100 ranking, which is voted on by the very players he competes against.

Throughout Humphrey's five years on the Chiefs, he's played in all 17 regular-season games, not to mention the bevy of playoff games Kansas City has been in as well. For a big guy like him, who goes against other 300-plus pound mammoths every week, you'd expect a couple of nicks and bruises here or there to add up and slow him down. But Humphrey is typically the one laying the heat on whoever steps in his way.

This past season was arguably the best of his career, despite losing a future Hall of Fame guard to his left in Joe Thuney. Humphrey, 26, ranked first among all centers on PFF with an overall ranking of 88.8. What's even more remarkable is that he literally only gave up two quarterback hits in his 1,093 snaps played and accounted for just two penalties. Humphrey's violence and strength are on a purely different level. But it's also his technicality and IQ that put him on a whole other level than any center in the league.

Humphrey comes from a wrestling background, and it shows up when you watch him play. His hands are quick and strong, and he is athletic and agile enough to get to the second level quickly, taking on multiple rushers.

Perhaps it's because he plays center that a lot of the attention from the media and general fans is not on him, given that he ranked 93rd on the list two seasons ago. But we Chiefs fans know how valuable he is and truly how elite a player he continues to be year in and year out. If we are being honest, Creed Humphrey is without a doubt the best at his position and overall a top 20-30 player in this league. The Chiefs know that and are lucky to have him.
