The Kansas City Chiefs could definitely use some help in the pass-catching department. Patrick Mahomes is targeting a Week 1 return, and judging by the latest reports and clips, it looks like he'll be out there with no limitations.
That said, even the best players in the game need some help. Mahomes can't catch his own passes, and there are more than enough questions about the Chiefs' current wide receiver corps and their lack of moves.
However, that doesn't mean they should be desperate enough to overpay for help. That's why general manager Brett Veach should want no part of Bill Barnwell's latest projection. In his latest column for ESPN, Barnwell claimed that Jordan Addison would be worth at least one first-round pick in a potential trade.

Needless to say, the Chiefs should want nothing to do with the Minnesota Vikings' wideout, at least at that price. Addison hasn't done much to prove he's worth that much since his rookie season, with a career-low 610 receiving yards in 2025, and he also comes with major red flags off the field.
From a DUI to being suspended by his own team for missing a walkthrough practice, Addison's young NFL career has been stained by matters unrelated to the game of football. Moreover, his production has declined each year he's been in the league, despite having the advantage of playing alongside superstar Justin Jefferson.
Of course, the Chiefs need help, and Addison's shown flashes of strong play. He could be a better version of what they had with Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown, and while that bar isn't particularly high, excelling in a primary role is not out of the question if he remains locked in.
That's a big 'if,' though, and it's not like the Chiefs can afford to roll the dice on another troublemaker. They already have to figure out what to do with Rashee Rice's impending contract extension, given his well-documented character issues off the field.
The Chiefs should definitely be on the lookout for more help at wide receiver. They need to do right by their all-world quarterback by giving Mahomes the weapons he needs, but that doesn't mean Veach should waste valuable draft capital.
Kansas City may have waited too long to make a move, and trading a first-round pick for Addison would only make things worse. Hopefully, Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice will live up to the expectations and silence the critics in this pivotal season. If that's not the case, the Chiefs might be desperate enough to pull this off if Addison plays well. Today, however, it would be a mistake.
