Chiefs Begin Week 10 Practice With Concerning New Injury on Defense
The Kansas City Chiefs have started off the season hot. They have begun the season with an 8-0 record and constantly find different ways to win.
Last week on Monday Night Football, the Chiefs beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-24 in an overtime bout. While the biggest injury concern coming out of the game was around Patrick Mahomes' ankle, other players suffered injuries.
Defensive lineman Tershawn Wharton tweaked his right knee and suffered a knee contusion. That injury led to Wharton missing Wednesday's practice.
Chiefs News: Tershawn Wharton Will Miss Wednesday’s Practice
Head coach Andy Reid spoke with team reporters and revealed that Wharton won't participate in Wednesday's session because of his knee contusion.
The 26-year-old has been a quality member of the defensive line rotation. He's played the second-most snaps at defensive tackle behind Chris Jones with 352 snaps.
He currently has a 64.4 overall grade and a 69.9 pass-rush grade per PFF. Wharton has 15 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in 2024.
We'll have to see how his injury progresses over the next couple of days before speculating if he'll be active on Sunday against the Denver Broncos in an AFC West showdown.
Regardless, the Chiefs would be able to mask the absence of Wharton if he had to miss time. Kansas City's defensive line is led by Chris Jones, who has 17 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and three sacks in 2024.
In addition to that, Kansas City has dominated the series against the Broncos since 2015, winning 16 of the last 17 games against Denver.
