The Kansas City Chiefs have made a few surprising moves this offseason, including franchise-tagging right guard Trey Smith. It was originally reported that Kansas City was trying to avoid tagging Smith, likely due to its price. Despite this, the Chiefs' hand was forced in the matter to stop him from hitting the open market.

That said, all accounts have pointed to the 25-year-old wanting to stay in Kansas City since contract negotiations started. Smith reaffirmed these desires during his appearance on the Up & Adams show with Kay Adams on Monday morning.

When asked where he was in the negotiations, Smith said, "Ultimately, man, I can only focus on just working out and training. I love Kansas City. It's my home. I love the Chiefs. The fans in Kansas City are some of the best people I've ever been around. Ultimately, I would love to stay there, and that's my plan."

Trey Smith Continues to Share His Desire to Stay in KC

Smith's most recent comments are the least bit surprising. If you have ever heard him speak about Kansas City, he's always had positive things to say and shared his desire to stay in the city. This makes sense, given the fact the Chiefs took a chance and drafted him in the sixth round when other teams passed on him because of injury concerns.

The calculated risk Kansas City took by drafting Smith has definitely paid off. In four seasons, the 25-year-old has quickly cemented himself as one of the best guards in the league, having earned All-Pro honors once on his rookie contract.

While Chiefs fans are eager to see a long-term deal finalized, there's little doubt Smith's future remains in Kansas City.
