Chiefs Vet Dealing With Surprise Injury Coming Out of Bye Week
By Joe Summers
Chiefs DE Mike Danna is reportedly dealing with a pectoral injury according to head coach Andy Reid, who spoke to the media on Monday.
Danna missed Week 4 with a calf injury though played in Week 5. This new ailment could limit him in Week 7 against the 49ers but we won't get the first injury report until Wednesday.
Should the five-year veteran miss the contest, 2023 first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah and Malik Herring will presumably handle the bulk of the snaps alongside George Karlaftis.
Chiefs DE Mike Danna Dealing With Pectoral Injury
It's been an underwhelming season for Danna overall, though it could largely be attributed to his nagging injuries. He signed a three-year extension last offseason after a breakout campaign but could fall behind in the pecking order once Charles Omenihu returns to the field.
So far this year, Danna has 14 tackles with a half of a sack and only four pressures. That's a far cry from the 6.5 sacks he put up last year, suggesting these injuries are hampering him in a significant way.
Kansas City's defense is still the best in the NFL. Danna's good health and improvement would make things better, but it's not as if he's somehow bringing the unit down.
If anything, his potential absence gives Anudike-Uzomah a chance to shine. We've seen a disappointing start to his career yet these are the moments that he can take advantage of. Danna might be just fine and play against the 49ers, though don't be surprised if his snaps are managed to ensure he's fully healthy for the home stretch.
