Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton missd pracitce on Wednesday and Thursday with a knee contusion. Typically, when a player misses both Wednesday and Thursday practices, the likelihood of them pracitcing on Friday and then playing Sunday isn't high.

Considering Wharton was dealing with a knee injury expectations of him playing Sunday were low. Despite said expectations, Wharton returned to the practice field on Friday.

Chiefs DT Tershawn Wharton Returns to Practice From Injury

Wharton's return to practice is good news heading into Sunday's matchup against the Denver Broncos. While the Broncos may not get much national attention they have quietly put together decent production on offense this season.

Currently, the Broncos rank 12th in rushing with 1,093 rushing yards. Having Warton available Sunday would help boost the Chiefs' ability to slow down the run. Not that the Broncos run game would have been much of a worry anyways, given the Chiefs have allowed second fewest yards on the ground this season.

Wharton's avaiblity Sunday will also strengthen the Chiefs' pass rush up the middle. Entering this week, Wharton has 2.5 sacks and 18 quarterback pressures. Although those number aren't super impressive, any pressure up the middle on rookie quarterback Bo Nix will be important.

If the Chiefs defensive line is able to cause havoc in the middle it will muddy the picture for Nix, creating the potential for turnovers. Gathering turnovers early will help the Chiefs put the game out of reach.

All in all, Wharton's return to practice will set the Chiefs defense up to be more successful on Sunday.
