The Kansas City Chiefs will make their 2024-25 NFL playoff debut when they collide with the Houston Texans in the Division Round. Even though the defending Super Bowl Champions are the overwhelming favorites as the AFC's No. 1 seed, the Chiefs still need all hands on deck to overcome the pesky Texans.

Having too much depth during the postseason is never a bad thing, especially considering all the injuries the Chiefs have dealt with this season. That's why general manager Brett Veach added a surprising wide receiver to the roster on Sunday.

Chiefs Sign WR Jason Brownlee to Practice Squad

According to Chiefs Digest's Matt Derrick, the Chiefs have signed wide receiver Jason Brownlee to the practice squad ahead of the Division Round. Kansas City also released tight end Robert Tonyan to make room for its new addition.

With Mecole Hardman, Rashee Rice, and Skyy Moore all on the injured reserve, it isn't shocking that the Chiefs added a depth pass-catcher like Brownlee. Even if the second-year playmaker doesn't play a snap this postseason, at least Andy Reid & Co. can rest easy knowing they have another warm body to call on in the event of another wideout-related injury.

Brownlee, 25, joined the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL draft. The West Point, MS native displayed potential during his three-year run at Southern Miss as he tallied 135 catches for 2,144 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns en route to earning All-Sun Belt and All-Conference USA honors.

Brownlee made seven appearances (5 starts) for the Jets during the 2023 campaign, turning five receptions into 56 yards and and score. He was set to return for a second season until the Jets waived him a few weeks before the 2024 season began.

Although things didn't work out with the Jets, the Chiefs could be a better fit for Brownlee.

After all, Reid's coaching staff knows how to get the most out of their receivers. They'd likely love to work with a 6-foot-3, 202-pound receiver who can do some damage as a catch-and-run weapon. His 149 receiving yards and touchdown on 15 catches in seven NFL preseason games indicate that he could even be brought back as the Chiefs' WR5/6 next season.

For now, time will tell if Brownlee is given an opportunity to play any snaps this postseason. If he sticks around, there's a good chance that he'll win his first championship ring given that the Chiefs currently own the second-best Super Bowl LIX odds (+350) on DraftKings Sportsbook.
