The Kansas City Chiefs have clear edge rushing concerns through five games played so far this season. The defense has been forced to become creative when rushing the quarterback. Nohl Williams, R Mason Thomas, and Felix Anudike-Uzomah were all tied with 1.0 sack through the first four games of the season before a four- sack explosion against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Still, there is reason to believe the franchise should be aggressive in the trade market, and there is a clear answer emerging.

With this in mind, it makes a great deal of sense for the Chiefs to look at current New Orleans Saints defender Chase Young as a potential target. Young has 5.5 sacks through the first six games this season and has been a disruptive force even for a New Orleans team that is undeniably emerging as an upcoming deadline seller.

Young being dealt fits with KC's cap space, as they'd only be acquiring his base salary. The Chiefs' front office would have plenty of time to figure things out when it comes to the remaining year of control. The veteran would fit well within Steve Spagnuolo's system and allow Kansas City the best chance to have a productive and rested edge-rushing rotation.

The Saints currently sit at 2-4 and appear to be very likely sellers, as the Carolina Panthers have a firm grip on the NFC South. Looking at the New Orleans schedule and wildcard standings, it is hard to believe the Saints aren't going to see the writing on the wall and shed veteran pieces.

Young would likely welcome the trade to Kansas City as an immediate upgrade to a historic franchise, in comparison to an NFC doormat stuck in years of ineptitude. It will be interesting to watch how aggressive the Chiefs opt to become as they sit undefeated, but clearly have needs at both edge rusher and receiver.

Having a front office willing to go in and make needed additions has been one of the defining traits of the Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes era. However, there have been cap limitations in recent years that have made top names a bit more difficult to land. With the offseason reset and the youth movement, the Chiefs now have the picks and cap space to navigate their way to adding Young as well as a needed pass catcher.

It is a move that the front office should already be actively exploring and at least offer the Saints a chance to go ahead and get an early jump on what appears to be an inevitable sell. One that gives Kansas City the chance to land the perfect edge-rushing addition.
