Despite being undermanned on offense, Andy Reid's Kansas City Chiefs didn't miss a beat after the bye week. As they usually do after a week off, they dominated en route to a statement 22-6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
It wasn't a perfect effort, and there's always something to clean up. Also, the struggling Chargers aren't a barometer for getting a clear picture of how far ahead this team is in terms of playoff contention. Even so, divisional games are always a must-win.
Most Chiefs aced their tests in this game, and the team is clearly trending in the right direction, despite its flaws. Considering that, let's talk about the four winners and two losers from the team's fifth win of the 2026 campaign.
4 winners and 2 big losers from the Chiefs' fifth win of the season
Winner: Kenneth Walker III
We're running out of superlatives to describe what Kenneth Walker III is doing with his new team. He's been the most impactful signing in pro football, and he's making a strong case to be considered the best running back in the league.
The reigning Super Bowl MVP put on another show in this one, turning 19 carries into 128 yards and two touchdowns. A 33-yard explosion helped drive his YPC average to 6.7, but he was putting up big numbers even before that.

Loser: Harrison Butker
Harrison Butker wasn't in the hot seat to enter this season, but it was lukewarm at best. Once considered one of the best kickers in the game, he's no longer as reliable as he was three or four years ago.
His struggles were on full display again in this win. He missed one of his four field goal attempts and a PAT. It didn't hurt the overall outcome because of the lopsided score, but this could come back to haunt the Chiefs further down the road against opponents who would not waste the chance to take advantage of the kicker's misfortunes.
Winner: Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy hasn't lived up to the hype as a former first-round pick, but he certainly made the most of his opportunities in this one. He had his second solid game of the season, and it came with Rashee Rice out with an injury.
The Texas product led the team in receptions (7), targets (7), and receiving yards (73). It was nice to watch him make the most of his shiftiness and acceleration in tight spaces for a change. He was for the first time in a long time, Mahomes' most secure target.
Winner: Cyrus Allen & Jalen Royals
The youngins finally got some run. With Rice and Tyquan Thornton out, the Chiefs had no choice but to trust Cyrus Allen and Jalen Royals, and while the numbers won't necessarily pop off, they made a case for a role going forward.
Allen showed signs of life with two catches in as many targets for 27 yards, paying back Mahomes' confidence in him from earlier in the week. As for Royals, he had two catches on four targets for 24 yards, building on what he had already accomplished this year.
Winner: George Karlaftis
George Karlaftis' pass-rushing numbers might not turn heads, but he made a bunch of winning plays today. He logged six total pressures and finished the game with three tackles, one sack, and three run stops.
He hasn't always lived up to his big contract, so it was nice to see him make an impact in this one, even if it was against one of the worst offensive lines in football. This is the improvement all fans want to see.
Loser: AFC West
After six weeks, the Kansas City Chiefs are a perfect 5-0. More importantly, they've gone 3-0 against the AFC West, and while it's still early in the season, that might be an insurmountable advantage in the division.
The Chiefs have dominated the AFC West almost at will throughout the course of the Patrick Mahomes era, and just when everyone thought they'd finally fall from grace, they've reminded the entire league that the team to beat still resides at One Arrowhead Drive.
