The Kansas City Chiefs have been the team to beat in the NFL for the better part of a decade. Patrick Mahomes has taken the team to new heights, and even coming off a disappointing season, they should be considered a force to be reckoned with.
However, there's one team that has always been a thorn in their side, at least during the regular season. Time and time again, the Buffalo Bills have gotten the best of them in the first 18 weeks, though they can't replicate that success when it matters most.
That's why, this time, the Chiefs should put some emphasis on taking down Josh Allen and company in the regular season as well. Fortunately, a Thanksgiving matchup will give them a perfect opportunity to do so.
It's time the Kansas City Chiefs bring their A-Game vs. the Bills
In the Mahomes era, it seems that Andy Reid is just studying the Bills and what they do so he can adjust for the playoffs. That has worked like a charm so far, but it has also led to a 1-5 regular-season record against them with Mahomes at the helm.
Mahomes hasn't been nearly as good against them in the regular season, passing for 1,552 yards with 10 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and an 81.6 passer rating in six games. Buffalo clearly knows how to mess with his rhythm.
That said, Mahomes always takes his game up a notch in win-or-go-home situations, and those matchups with the Bills certainly aren't the exception. He's 4-0 with 1,163 passing yards, nine touchdowns, zero picks, and a 123.7 passer rating vs. them in the playoffs.
The Bills have been on the wrong end of some true heartbreakers. Most of those playoff matchups have come down to the wire, and it would be unfair and naive not to admit that fortune and the football gods have blessed the Chiefs one too many times in these games.
That's all the more reason to make a statement in the regular season. The Chiefs must go the extra mile to break the Bills' stride and spirit and kill the hope of a potential playoff win. And doing so in one of the league's most iconic fixtures, just when everybody's watching, would only make it sweeter.
The Chiefs are coming off the worst season of the Andy Reid-Patrick Mahomes era, and some people will make the most of this opportunity to look down on them. They've usually saved the best for the postseason, but this time, they have to make sure to remind everyone why they've been the most dominant side in the league for nearly a decade.
