The Kansas City Chiefs will end Week 5 of the 2025 regular season on Monday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chiefs hope to open October with their third consecutive win, but they might not have one of their standout defensive rookies.
On Saturday afternoon, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters that rookie defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott did not practice because of a shoulder injury, per Charles Goldman of AtoZ Sports. He was officially listed as questionable for the primetime showdown.
That said, Reid didn’t rule out the rookie for Monday night’s game. “I think he should be ok. We’ll see,” the Chiefs head coach added (h/t Charles Goldman of AtoZ Sports).
The 23-year-old defensive lineman reportedly injured his shoulder in Friday’s practice despite being listed as a full participant. As you can imagine, this is the last thing Chiefs fans wanted to hear, as the rookie has been making major strides through the first month of the season.

However, if Reid isn’t sounding the alarm on the rookie’s status, then we should hopefully expect him to be on the field on Monday night. How much he plays will be a wait-and-see, but luckily, Kansas City has veterans like Chris Jones, Derrick Nnadi, and Jerry Tillery to fill in.
The second-round pick hasn’t played a boatload of snaps this season (55) as he learns the DT spot in the NFL, but has shown glimpses of his potential when on the field.
In Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Norman-Lott recorded his first career sack against QB Jalen Hurts, which was a massive hit. Then, in Week 3, the rookie defender almost had his second sack against the New York Giants, but failed to bring down QB Russell Wilson, which bugged Norman-Lott.
Despite missing out on his second career sack, he played a season-high 22 defensive snaps and had three combined tackles. The young defender struggled in last week’s win at home against the Baltimore Ravens, recording a 31.8 defensive grade on 17 snaps, per PFF.
Norman-Lott also produced a terrible 36.5 run defensive grade and a 52.4 pass rush grade. If he’s good to go, the Chiefs hope the rookie will perform better against the run as Jaguars RB Travis Etienne has been playing at a Pro Bowl level to start this season.
