The Kansas City Chiefs scored their first signing of the offseason when they agreed to a one-year, $11 million contract with Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. The move gives the Chiefs offense another downfield threat to pair with Xavier Worthy and the returning Rashee Rice and could help Patrick Mahomes lead a more explosive offense in 2025.
But just as much as it helps the Chiefs, it hurts one of their biggest rivals. The Buffalo Bills were rumored to be a potential suitor for Brown and had the endorsement of quarterback Josh Allen. In the end, the Bills never got a chance to pursue the 27-year-old. But it did lead them to overpay for a free agent and give Chiefs fans another chance at the last laugh.
Bills Overpay Former Chargers Receiver Josh Palmer in Free Agency
Multiple sources including ESPN’s Adam Schefter have reported that Josh Palmer has agreed to a three-year, $36 million contract with the Bills. Palmer spent the first four seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, catching 182 passes for 2,287 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Palmer didn’t have the opportunity to crack the starting lineup early in his career as he played behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. But the door opened when Williams left in free agency, Allen was traded to the Chicago Bears, and Palmer responded with a whimper, catching 39 passes for 584 yards and a touchdown while dealing with calf and elbow injuries.
There’s something to be said about playing in Greg Roman’s run-heavy offense in Los Angeles, which cut Justin Herbert’s attempts from 35 per game in 2023 to 29 per game last season. But Palmer has just one season with over 70 catches, grabbing 72 passes for 769 yards and three touchdowns in 2022, and took a backseat to rookie Ladd McConkey last season.
With Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir as their top targets, it makes sense that the Bills would be involved in the free agent market. But Brown has caught 322 passes for 3,735 yards and 28 touchdowns during his career, giving the Chiefs the better option at a lower price.
It’s a humorous ending that puts an end to one of Kansas City’s offseason rumors and gives Mahomes a key target for the 2025 season.
