While the Kansas City Chiefs spent the week navigating their organized team activities (OTAs), one of their AFC West rivals decided to shake up their backfield. The Denver Broncos signed veteran running back J.K. Dobbins to a one-year contract on Wednesday that could be worth over $5 million with incentives, keeping him in the division after playing with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024.

Players can sometimes take shots at their old teams after leaving town, regardless of what terms the relationship ended on. In this case, it only took Dobbins less than a day to take a shot at his old squad and the Chiefs' AFC West rival.

Chiefs News: J.K. Dobbins Takes Shot at Chargers After Signing With Broncos

Shortly after putting pen to paper with the Broncos, Dobbins spoke with Denver reporters following Wednesday's practice. The veteran running back used the opportunity to take a shot at the Chargers, including a reference to the team's latest postseason appearance.

"Good luck to (the Chargers). I’m a Bronco now. They’ve got to see me twice a year," Dobbins said (h/t Broncos reporter Will Petersen. "I don't just want to beat the Chargers. I want to get a ring. I’ve been in the playoffs every year I’ve played. I’m tired of losing in them."

Since being drafted 55th overall in 2020, Dobbins has participated in three playoff runs: two with the Baltimore Ravens, as well as the 2024 postseason with the Chargers. Two of those appearances ended with Dobbins' team being sent packing in the Wild Card Round, with his best run coming when the Ravens reached the 2021 AFC Division Round.

While being booted from the playoffs isn't fun, Los Angeles' latest postseason appearance was embarrassing, and Dobbins clearly hasn't forgotten that. The Chargers were obliterated 32-12 by the Houston Texans in their wild-card showdown in January, which saw the John Harbaugh-led team limited to six points through the first three quarters.

Dobbins has now gone from one of the Chiefs' AFC West rivals to another, leaving time to tell if he'll taste more playoff success in the Mile High City. The Broncos snapped their postseason drought following a 10-7 performance in 2024; however, their playoff journey ended as quickly as the Broncos', losing 31-7 to the Buffalo Bills on the road.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if Dobbins is with the Broncos or Chargers: the AFC West is the Chiefs' division to lose. Kansas City extended its divisional dominance with a ninth consecutive AFC West title last season, and FanDuel Sportsbook is favoring repeat history at -110 odds.
