The Chiefs wasted little time in making a roster move after rookie TE Jared Wiley's unfortunate season-ending injury suffered during practice this week.

Upon elevating Peyton Hendershot with an active roster contract, Kansas City also reunted with veteran TE Anthony FIrkser, adding him to the practice squad.

Firkser spent time with the Chiefs' practice squad as an undrafted free agent back in 2017. He was eventually waived during the following offseason and has since played for the Titans, Falcons, Lions, Patriots, and Jets.

Chiefs Reunite With Veteran TE Anthony Firkser

While he hasn't yet appeared in a game with Kansas City, Firkser carved out a nice role for himself as a reliable receiving threat with blocking chops.

During his seven-year career, Firkser has 115 catches for 1,207 yards and five TDs. His best years came with the Titans, posting 387 receiving yards in 2020 and 291 in 2021. There's no expectation for him to play a big role this year but given how many injuries the Chiefs have suffered, the possibility remains open.

Kansas City's tight end room now features Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, and Hendershot. Firkser will be a "break glass in case of emergency" option on the practice squad but the coaching staff hopes that emergency won't come.

Despite the numerous injuries suffered on the offensive side of the ball, the Chiefs still rank ninth in the NFL in points per game (24.7). This is the league's only undefeated still marching on for a bid at a third straight Super Bowl, and moves like this show the organization is ready for anything.

For now, we welcome Firkser back with open arms and hope he can leave here with a ring.
