Chiefs Lose Yet Another Offensive Playmaker for the Season Ahead of Trade Deadline
The Kansas City Chiefs are the only unbeaten team in the NFL. They are 7-0 and have a primetime battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.
While they have found ways to win, they have been hammered with multiple injuries to offensive playmakers. Last week, they lost tight end Jody Fortson in a game against the Las Vegas Raiders. It was revealed that he tore his ACL and is done for the year.
As Kansas City is preparing for the Bucs, it was announced that rookie tight end Jared Wiley tore his ACL during Friday's practice and is out for the year. The team decided to call up Peyton Hendershot from the practice squad to replace him.
Chiefs News: Jared Wiley Done for 2024 Season
Andy Reid spoke to team reporters on Saturday and broke the news. Wiley was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He was brought in due to his size (6'7) and athletic ability but is now done for the rest of the campaign.
In a matter of six days, the Chiefs have lost two backup tight ends. That is less than ideal as they want to conserve Travis Kelce's body for the postseason. They'll now have to lean on Noah Gray and Hendershot going forward.
The trade deadline is on Nov. 5 if GM Brett Veach wants to make another move. It was already revealed that the Chiefs are looking to add another WR and CB. Now with the injury to Wiley, the list could expand.
