The Chiefs brought back a beloved familiar face early Tuesday morning, reuniting with practice squad QB Chris Oladokun after the Browns signed Bailey Zapper.

Oladokun spent the last couple of years with Kansas City prior to being released ahead of roster cutdown day to make room for Zappe. He's been a preseason standout and is loved by fans, especially since he helped imitate Lamar Jackson on scout team prior to last year's AFC Championship matchup.

Patrick Mahomes and Carson Wentz will remain the active QBs during games, though Oladokun's signing brings someone comfortable with the system back into the mix.

While he's never appeared in an NFL game, Oladokun is still considered one of the better third-string QBs in the league. He's displayed strong dual-threat ability during preseason appearances. If disaster ever struck and he was forced to suit up, the coaching staff could feel comfortable.

Oladokun didn't join another team after being released by Kansas City though he drew interest from multiple franchises. The 2022 seventh-round pick out of South Dakota State has a promising long-term career as a depth piece but understandably dreams of more.

Zappe joined the Browns after Deshaun Watson's season-ending Achilles injury. The Chiefs poached him from the Patriots this offseason though he has a more immediate path to playing time in Cleveland.

Kansas City faces Zappe and the Browns on December 15. Based on how each team's season is going, perhaps Zappe will get an opportunity at that point. Either way, it's great to have Oladokun back with the Chiefs, yet all hope he won't have to actually suit up for a game anytime soon.
