The first week of June is almost in the books as the Kansas City Chiefs focus on their upcoming offseason workouts. The Chiefs are scheduled to hold their final voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) from June 10 to 13, before commencing their mandatory minicamp the following week, highlighting just how close training camp is to beginning.

Once OTAs are finally over, Chiefs fans will have a better sense of how head coach Andy Reid's 53-man roster is shaping up. Kansas City needs the best roster possible to rebound from the disappointing Super Bowl 59 defeat, and any excess fat must be trimmed to accomplish that goal.

With that in mind, it isn't hard to imagine that a certain Chiefs wideout will be on the chopping block when OTAs are done.

Chiefs WR Nikko Remigio Will Be on Chopping Block After OTAs

This offseason is a crucial time for several Chiefs players on the roster bubble, including third-year wideout Nikko Remigio.

Remigio, 25, has experienced a quiet time in Kansas City after being signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL draft. The former Fresno State Bulldog missed his entire rookie campaign due to injury before only suiting up for six appearances in 2024, playing 39 snaps on offense and another 42 on special teams.

Offensively, Remigio barely made an impact, catching only 2-of-6 targets (33.3%) for 48 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. He contributed more frequently on special teams, returning 11 punts for 104 yards while also tallying 295 return yards on 11 kicks.

Remigio's outlook with the Chiefs was always going to be unclear, but things have become murkier since the offseason began. After already being low on the WR depth chart to begin the spring, his spot in the pecking order is likely worse after Kansas City used a 2025 fourth-round pick on ex-Utah State wideout Jalen Royals, who's already impressing the coaching staff.

It doesn't help that Remigio is also at risk of losing special teams opportunities. Second-year WR Xavier Worthy will be looking to expand his role as a returner after a strong debut NFL season, while rookie running back Brashard Smith has also been given special teams opportunities throughout OTAs.

If Worthy and Smith continue to capitalize on their chances to shine as returners, the Chiefs will have one less reason to keep Remigio around.

Although he's still young enough to have a long career in the NFL, it's hard to like Remigio's chances of doing so in Kansas City. Unless he dominates the final OTA sessions and throughout mandatory minicamp, Chiefs fans could be saying goodbye to the Orange, CA native sooner rather than later.
