The Kansas City Chiefs are awaiting their opponent in the divisional round of the playoffs. After clinching the much-deserved first-round bye, the Chiefs are using the extra week of rest to get healthy before they start their journey for a historic three-peat.

While 14 teams that made the playoffs are focused on the task at hand, the rest of the league already started their offseasons. That means they are already making their free agency plans. Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus wrote a piece identifying a free agent target for every team in the league. For the Chiefs, he has Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs as the ideal option.

The Chiefs will have to make some tough offseason decisions. This includes the wide receiver rotation. DeAndre Hopkins and Hollywood Brown are both free agents after the year. Considering that backups like JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman, and Justin Watson are also on expiring contracts, the Chiefs may have to completely revamp their WR room.

We have previously seen Patrick Mahomes work his magic with less-than-ideal wideout rotation. At some point, however, the Chiefs front office needs to surround him with elite talent to maximize their chances.

Diggs certainly gives the Chiefs that opportunity. The 31-year-old WR was traded to Houston in the 2024 offseason and had his contract restructured into a one-year, $22.5 million deal. In Week 8, he suffered a torn ACL and was ruled out for the season.

The Chiefs will not be able to know the latest on Diggs due to his injury but they are very familiar with the four-time Pro Bowler. They faced Diggs three times in the playoffs when he was with the Bills and emerged victorious each time. Despite making the playoffs seven times in his ten-year career, Diggs was never able to get over the hump and make the Super Bowl. Joining Kansas City would presumably be something he would be interested in for that reason alone.
