Chiefs Given Big WR Trade Opportunity After Another GM Firing
The Kansas City Chiefs were dealt a massive blow to their wide receiving corps to begin the 2024 season, losing Marquise "Hollywood" Brown during the preseason and Rashee Rice in Week 4. While those two absences made it difficult for the Chiefs to find a rhythm in the passing game, they did with the addition of DeAndre Hopkins and the emergence of Xavier Worthy.
Nevertheless, Hopkins and multiple other Chiefs receivers are set to hit free agency this offseason. While it's very likely that at least one of the receivers with an expiring contract returns, it's important to keep an eye open to happenings around the league.
Kansas City's division rival, the Las Vegas Raiders, surprisingly fired their general manager, Tom Telesco, on Thursday. This leaves the door open for the Chiefs to potentially steal a player from the Raiders via trade.
Chiefs Chould Steal Jakobi Meyers From Raiders This Offseason
The Raiders organization underwent massive changes this week, firing their general manager and head coach. As a result, the Chiefs and the rest of the AFC West are bound to the beginnings of a revamped roster in 2025. Thus, the Raiders could be open to trading a wide receiver such as Jakobi Meyers.
Meyers has spent the past two seasons in Las Vegas, playing in all four games against the Chiefs. In those four games, Meyers recorded 21 catches on 30 targets for 270 yards and two touchdowns. That's some solid production, given the Raiders' quarterback situation and the fact that Kansas City has a solid defense.
Moreover, Meyers has recorded 158 receptions for 1,834 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons with the Raiders. This season, Meyers became the No.1 option at wide receiver after Devante Adams
was traded in Week 7.
As the Raiders' No.1 option, Meyers recorded 62 receptions for 754 yards and three touchdowns. Once more, given the Raiders' awful quarterback situation this season, Meyers's stats are pretty solid.
If the Chiefs were open to trade with a division rival, adding Meyers as an option for Patrick Mahomes next season would be a smart idea. That said, given the hatred between the two franchises and the fact that in-division trades don't happen often, there's not a high chance the trade happens.
