Chiefs fans will cherish one new projected trade that lands Kansas City a high-quality receiver while dumping a much-maligned player who has seemingly fallen out of favor with the coaching staff.

ESPN's Ben Solak put his general manager hat on and thought of a way for the Chiefs to acquire WR Christian Kirk from the lowly Jaguars. Doug Pederson looks like he could soon be fired and Jacksonville may have a firesale at the trade deadline.

If that happens, Brett Veach could swoop in and poach Kirk. It's possible that Kansas City feels comfortable pushing forward with JuJu Smith-Schuster as the top receiver but if not, Kirk makes a lot of sense.

Projected Trade Lands Chiefs WR Christian Kirk From Jaguars

"I think the Chiefs should and will add a receiver at the deadline. But which one?" Solak writes.
I would be looking for a sure-handed WR who can line up everywhere and move the sticks -- that's who the Chiefs, with their league-low depth of target, need to make this patient offense work.

As such, Kirk (257 receiving yards, 1 TD this season) should be one of their first options. He has a great feel for routes and space, so he'd work well with Mahomes early on. And he still has more downfield juice than he's given credit for at 28 years old."

Kirk has always been a reliable receiver, catching 84 passes for 1,108 yards and eight TDs in 2022. Moore, on the other hand, is buried on the depth chart. He played only six snaps in Week 5 after a costly drop in Week 4 that drew the ire of Veach. At this point, it's obvious he needs a change of scenery.

Brian Thomas Jr. looks like a potential star for Jacksonville, giving the Jaguars reason to move Kirk while picking up draft capital as they head toward another rebuild.

Perhaps Jacksonville wouldn't be willing to help an AFC rival who knocked them out of the playoffs but if they are, this is among the best options Kansas City will have. We'll see how things go with the current group ahead of the trade deadline. If Smith-Schuster struggles, this is a call Veach needs to make.
