Among the more interesting storylines surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason is what they'll do at the running back position. Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco figure to lead the backfield, yet fans understandably want the team to acquire another body on top of Elijah Mitchell to complement the group.
While there are some clear options in the 2025 NFL Draft later this month, it's possible that the front office chooses to go with an established veteran instead to allow them to target other positions.
If that winds up being the case, there's one former All-Pro that general manager Brett Veach needs to target as a workhorse back with a reliable track record.

Chiefs Should Target RB Nick Chubb to Feature as Workhorse
Cleveland Browns star Nick Chubb is a pending free agent, with many speculating that he won't return to the only organization he's ever known. That gives the Chiefs the perfect opportunity to swoop in and make the 29-year-old halfback a featured part of the offense.
A four-time Pro Bowler, Chubb is widely regarded as one of the NFL's premier running backs. After a devastating knee injury two years ago, he's likely not someone who can handle a workload of 300+ carries at this stage, yet he can still elevate Kansas City's offense in a big way.
Pacheco and Hunt aren't built at this point to handle the type of workload that the Chiefs need. They're solid options, yet someone like Chubb could push the offense over the top and ease the pressure on those two. Mitchell's speed makes him a quality option too, but Chubb's physicality would pair perfectly with Kansas City's elite interior offensive line.
Just two years removed from rushing for 1,525 yards and 12 TDs, Chubb has never had the opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl. The Chiefs could provide him that chance and at this stage of his career, he's running out of time. Based on his injury history, Chubb could likely be had at a discount, yet the upside is tremendous.
If he doesn't intend to return to Cleveland, there isn't a better fit than Kansas City.
