As Kansas City Chiefs fans take in the 2026 schedule release, the one thing jumping off the page is a gauntlet towards the end of the season. The Chiefs will go on the road on Thanksgiving Day to face the Buffalo Bills, followed by road games against the Los Angeles Rams and the revamped Cincinnati Bengals. Coming back home won't offer much reprieve with the Chiefs hosting the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers the following two weeks.

This is a truly brutal stretch of games covering Weeks 12-16 in the 2026 season. Only in Week 17 does the road get easier with the Chiefs taking on a Los Angeles Chargers team they have historically owned in the Patrick Mahomes era. The quarterback is 10-4 against the division rival and must continue his overwhelming AFC West dominance to weather the storm awaiting KC in between the two divisional matchups.

With that said, this is a battle-tested Chiefs team that isn't going to be scared of playing anyone in front of them. However, there is no denying just how difficult this five-game stretch is and how important it will be for the Chiefs to stack wins early in the 2026 season. Something the team's schedule clearly sets up based on the struggling franchises the Chiefs will play.

Chiefs schedule release reveals daunting five-week run nearing season's end

Before this difficult run, the Chiefs are scheduled to play the Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, and the New York Jets. These are five games the Chiefs should easily win, helping the franchise get off to a hot start and setting themselves up to survive what could be a difficult stretch.

Facing Josh Allen in the regular season is never easy, and the same should be said of Joe Burrow and Matthew Stafford. The fact that this trio of games comes all in a row as road matchups only furthers what has to be an underdog mindset for Kansas City heading into the 2026 season.

The Chiefs have spent all offseason listening to the disrespect and will now inevitably listen to pundits paint the late-season schedule as a hill KC can't climb. Kansas City has to take this admittedly difficult slate and view it as a challenge, understanding that it will be bookended by extremely winnable games.

With this in mind, it is a frustrating schedule quirk and will be undeniably draining, but this is a battle-tested group that has proven capable of competing no matter the circumstances. Five rough weeks will be viewed as a challenge and a chance to simulate playoff football at the perfect time.
