Kansas City Chiefs fans aren't the only ones frustrated with right tackle Jawaan Taylor. During Friday's frustrating loss to the Chargers, Travis Kelce can be seen in what appears to be a very heated conversation with Taylor. Perhaps calling it a conversation is a bit generous, with it seeming that Kelce is simply yelling at Taylor out of understandable frustration. Jordan Dajani pointed out the moment that had already caught the attention of many KC fans.
Kelce is a vocal leader, but isn't someone who is typically going to show up another player. Choosing to call out Taylor so visibly is a bit of a surprise and points out the incredible level of frustration among Kansas City fans when it comes to Taylor's performance. It isn't just poor protection but consistent penalties that are hard to excuse when you're as experienced of a starter as Taylor has become.
Chiefs Star Caught Calling Out Frustration with RT Jawaan Taylor
Yes, the Chiefs have been to two straight Super Bowls since Taylor joined the franchise. However, one of those was a loss due to the incredibly poor protection from the offensive line. Patrick Mahomes ran for his life against the Chiefs and didn't have a prayer of moving the football. Taylor was a piece of this and has consistently had issues with penalties or whiffing on pass rushers. It is time to turn the page on the struggling veteran and see if your bench holds a better answer.
Kansas City paid Jaylon Moore top dollar for a backup with a $30 million deal, suggesting there was some thought of Moore working his way into the starting lineup. Now is the time to make this switch as the Chiefs prepare for a difficult Philadelphia Eagles team. So many of the issues that Taylor brings can be easily cleaned up. It isn't as if there isn't talent; the veteran simply has never stopped making rookie mistakes.
Something that has not only frustrated Kelce, but the fan base as well. Seeing such a respected player losing their cool over the situation further validates it and points out the need to give Moore a chance. Sitting Taylor down after his next mistake isn't going to be a difficult decision to undo.
It isn't as if making the change is going to improve or hurt a veteran who has been incredibly consistent when it comes to making infuriating mistakes. You can count on great production with 3-4 mind-numbingly frustrating moments thrown in. These are what Kansas City is looking to alleviate, and perhaps Moore is that answer.
Regardless, it is great to see Kelce this engaged and focused on holding teammates accountable. With much made of the pass catcher's off-the-field life, there was a sense of curiosity about which version would show up this season. This play serves as an answer to those questions.
This leaves Taylor's status very much in question, with another bad week more than enough to bench the struggling tackle whose job security is increasingly tenuous.
