The Kansas City Chiefs’ trip to Brazil didn’t turn out to be a fun one and a big reason why was an injury to Xavier Worthy. The second-year receiver was injured in the first quarter of last Friday’s 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers and extent of the injury has been vague outside of it being reported as a right shoulder dislocation.

Even if Andy Reid is trying to be coy ahead of a Week 2 matchup with the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said that the injury could have Worthy missing “quite a bit of time.” If the timeline isn’t as rosy as Reid made it seem on Monday, the Chiefs need to have a plan in the likely event Worthy isn’t able to play on Sunday.

That has the Chiefs turning to an old friend in Hal Presly, who will look to add depth to a receiver room that desperately needs it.

Hal Presley Re-Joins Chiefs Ahead of Super Bowl Rematch vs. Eagles

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, the Chiefs have signed Presley to their practice squad ahead of Sunday’s game with the Eagles. An undrafted receiver out of Baylor, Presley attended rookie minicamp with the Buffalo Bills and signed with the Chiefs just before training camp.

After Presley caught two passes for 20 yards in Kansas City’s three preseason games, he was signed to the practice squad during roster cuts, but released on Aug. 28.

Although Presley spent Week 1 at home, Presley will at least have an opportunity while Worthy is sidelined. Fourth-round rookie Jalen Royals has been on the shelf with knee tendinitis and these injuries left the Chiefs short on talent and production in the loss to the Chargers.

Hollywood Brown had 10 catches for 99 yards and JuJu Smith-Schuster had five catches for 55 yards. But the rest of the passing attack was sporadic with most of Travis Kelce’s damage coming on a 37-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter and Tyquan Thornton mixing in with two catches for 41 yards.

That leaves Brown, Smith-Schuster and Thornton as an underwhelming trio in Week 2. While Presley has some work to do to prove he should be a gameday elevation, this shows the team thinks highly of him to bring him back. He at least has a chance to convince Reid he's worth live-game looks while Worthy is sidelined, especially with the back end of the WR depth chart featuring similarly unproven talents.
