San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner is very familiar with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have defeated Warner’s 49ers in the Super Bowl twice and while San Francisco isn’t playing on Sunday, several of his teammates have created headlines in the days leading up to the big game.

One of the players that Warner has dealt with the most in those losses is Travis Kelce. The future Hall of Famer has fared well against the 49ers catching 10 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown in the previous Super Bowl meetings but the All-Pro linebacker’s comments made on radio row are sure to raise some eyebrows as Kelce seeks his fourth Super Bowl ring on Sunday.

49ers Star Fred Warner Hopes Travis Kelce Retires After Super Bowl

Warner appeared on The Pat McAfee Show earlier this week and discussed the difficulties playing against Kelce. One of the biggest challenges is battling Kelce’s mind, which helps him get open and mix in the psychological warfare of trash talk.

“I don’t know what he thinks about. I don’t know how he approaches the game. Bu the savvy that he plays with is unlike any other tight end,” Because when you go and you watch a tight end all week long and preparing for the guy, you’re like ‘Okay, he runs his corner route like he’s going to run a corner route’…but he’ll run a post or he’ll just kind of find some space and just sit down and then you think you got him in coverage and then he just works away from you. …He’s a hooper. And he talks a little trash too, so then he gets into your mind game too.”

While Warner praised Kelce, he also admitted a truth that could be music to the ears of Chiefs fans.

“Hopefully it’s his last season,” Warner said. “He retires, goes off into the sunset and we ain’t got to deal with him.”

Unfortunately for Warner, it doesn’t appear that Sunday will be Kelce’s final game. The 35-year-old has started laying out plans for life after football but told reporters he hopes he’s still playing for the Chiefs in three years and feels like he has “a lot of good football left in me.”

Perhaps this opens the door to Warner and Kelce meeting in a third Super Bowl but it’s clear Warner may not have seen the last of of the Chiefs’ star on the field.
