It isn't a secret that the Kansas City Chiefs have been the AFC's most dominant franchise for the better part of the last decade. Head coach Andy Reid's team has made seven consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances since 2018, which includes five Super Bowl matchups that saw the Chiefs take home the Lombardi Trophy three times.

Several teams have tried to dethrone the Chiefs as AFC darlings in recent years, with the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens often providing the fiercest competition. Neither rival has been able to achieve that goal, though, and that failure may have played a role in the NFL's latest noteworthy signing.

Chiefs News: Ravens Sign CB Jaire Alexander to 1-Year Contract Worth up to $6 Million

After being kicked to the curb by the Green Bay Packers last week, Jaire Alexander has found a new home. NFL insider Adam Schefter is reporting that Alexander has signed a one-year contract with the Ravens on Wednesday.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo later added that the two-time All-Pro CB's contract is for $4 million and an incentives can add an additional $2 million to that total.

As much as Chiefs fans might hate to admit it, Alexander does make the Ravens' secondary that much better, especially with names like Kyle Hamilton, Nate Wiggins, Marlon Humphrey, and Ar'Darius Washington already in the secondary.

The former 2018 first-rounder solidified himself as one of the NFL's top ballhawks during his time with the Packers, racking up 241 solo tackles, 70 defended passes, 12 interceptions, three forced fumbles, and 1.5 sacks. On top of that, he's recorded a Pro Football Focus coverage grade of 75.3 or better in each of the last six seasons.

Although Alexander's presence will give Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes another threat to worry about when he faces the Ravens, the former's ability to stay healthy will determine his success. Alexander has only reached double-digit games played once in the last four years, which includes being held to exactly seven appearances in each of the last two campaigns.

The Ravens are set to visit Kansas City for a massive Week 4 showdown next season, meaning it won't be long until the Chiefs face their rival's newest addition. He hasn't faced Mahomes & Co. since Week 8 of the 2019 season, recording five total tackles and a broken-up pass in a 31-24 win for the Packers.

Chiefs fans should still feel confident about the team's outlook, especially after all the offseason moves general manager Brett Veach pulled off. Having said that, it's clear the path to winning another AFC title will be that much tougher now that Alexander has joined the Ravens' flock.
