The Kansas City Chiefs are 9-0 after they secured an improbable 16-14 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday. They are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL and have an AFC showdown against the Buffalo Bills in Week 11.

Even though they won their ninth straight game, left tackle Wanya Morris suffered a knee injury that forced him to miss time against the Broncos. Rookie second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia replaced Morris but has struggled.

Morris ended up finishing the contest against Denver, but the Chiefs are watching his injury closely. If his knee drags on, Kansas City already has a former player waiting in the wings.

Chiefs Rumors: Donovan Smith is Waiting On a Phone Call

Per Nate Taylor of The Athletic, free agent left tackle Donovan Smith is ready to roll and is waiting for the phone call from Kansas City. If Morris' injury concerns continue this week, Smith is someone who is expected to be signed by the team.

The 31-year-old was on the Chiefs roster in 2023, logging 12 starts. He would give them a veteran stopgap at left tackle who has experience and familiarity with the team. Smith has 11 career playoff starts under his belt and would bring that to the table as well.

The Chiefs can't afford to have Suamataia play an extended amount of snaps if Morris can't go. Suamataia has allowed 13 pressures, three sacks, and recorded three penalties in 162 snaps this season. In addition, he has a 36.8 overall grade per PFF.

Getting a vet like Smith appears to be the plan but they'll have to watch Morris' health over the next couple of days.
