Beloved Chief Suddenly Misses Practice Right Before Raiders Game
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs are preparing to take on the Raiders on Black Friday in a unique game that'll command the country's attention, yet one key defender suddenly missed practice on Wednesday.
LB Leo Chenal wasn't available due to a personal matter, though head coach Andy Reid clarified that he'll be good to go for the contest.
It's not clear why Chenal missed practice but there's no question that he's a valuable member of both the defense and special teams, so it's a blessing he's okay to suit up on Friday.
Chiefs LB Leo Chenal Misses Wednesday Practice Before Raiders Game
Spencer Shrader's absence was expected based on previous reports. Former Chiefs kicker Matthew Wright will take his place to become Kansas City's third kicker of the season, showcasing the injury problems the team has endured.
Chenal has long been a favorite among fans though he sealed his place in Chiefs lore by blocking the game-winning kick against the Broncos a few weeks ago.
While only playing 44% of the defensive snaps and 67% of special teams ones, Chenal has been one of the most effective players on the team on a per-play basis. He has 38 tackles, three deflected passes, two forced fumbles, one sack, and the legendary block that'll live on in highlight reels for years to come.
Losing him would've represented a massive loss. Thankfully, there's no expectation that Chenal won't play on Friday. The Chiefs are mammoth favorites over the Raiders regardless, but the potential for a blowout should give Chenal an opportunity to earn more playing time, especially late.
Here's hoping all is okay and that he'll be ready to roll come Friday.
