Another 49ers Playmaker in Danger of Missing Chiefs Game After Surprise Injury
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs and 49ers square off on Sunday afternoon for a Super Bowl rematch and while Kansas City is dealing with several major injuries, San Francisco may be even more banged up.
All-Pro RB Christian McCaffrey is still out, fellow RB Jordan Mason and WR Deebo Samuel were both limited at Wednesday's practice and now breakout WR Jauan Jennings is dealing with a hip issue. He's in danger of missing the game, potentially taking away one of the pillars of the 49ers' offense this year.
Jennings hurt his hip in last week's Thursday Night Football contest with the Seahawks. If he can't go, Ronnie Bell or former Chief Chris Conley would step up in his place.
49ers WR Jauan Jennings Misses Wednesday's Practice
Jennings currently leads San Francisco in receiving yards (404) while ranking second in receptions (25) and TDs (3). He's become one of Brock Purdy's most trusted targets, notably scoring in Kansas City's Super Bowl win last season.
Despite the many injuries and mediocre 3-3 record, the 49ers are still favored in a disrespectful slight toward the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes should never be an underdog and neither should Andy Reid coming off a bye. That oddsmakers haven't realized that yet is not only funny, it's irresponsible.
Aside from the obvious guys like Rashee Rice, Isiah Pacheco, and Hollywood Brown, DE Mike Danna is the only player who didn't practice for Kansas City. They should be relatively healthy compared to San Francisco's long list of ailments, making the current odds even more bizarre.
We'll know more about Jennings' status as the week progresses. Should he, Mason, or Samuel be limited on Sunday, it's hard to see how the 49ers escape with a win over the undefeated Chiefs.
