Andy Reid Addresses Xavier Worthy's Huge Blunder During Chiefs' MNF Win
By Cem Yolbulan
The Kansas City Chiefs are off to an 8-0 start and remain the only undefeated team in the league. They are the favorites to win their historic third straight Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean they don't have problems they need to fix. Despite the hot start, the offense hasn't looked particularly convincing after the injuries to key starters like Rashee Rice and Isiah Pacheco.
The organization is hoping for rookie Xavier Worthy to take a big step forward in his expanded role, but the first-round pick has had an up-and-down start to his career. His worst performance came on Monday against Tampa Bay when he finished with zero catches in two targets and -10 yards in the running game. His blunder came when he stepped out of bounds on a big pass play, resulting in an incompletion.
Head coach Andy Reid, however, isn't too worried. On Wednesday, Reid defended the rookie and said he was doing a great job.
Chiefs News: Andy Reid Defends Xavier Worthy After MNF Mistake
This is not too surprising by Reid. He has seen a ton of rookies make plenty of mistakes. That's just part of life in the NFL. Instead, the experienced head coach is focusing on the positives.
"Yeah, he’s doing a good job. He just had that look of stepping out of bounds there. I mean, but what a great route. That was an adjustment he made to put himself in that position off of the route. He’s doing a good job. He didn’t have his number dialed up as much as he did the weeks in the past... But there’ll be weeks like that; his numbers called up more. That just says how it goes in these games."

Worthy has 19 catches for 235 yards and three touchdowns in eight games this season. He has added 37 yards and two scores in the running game. Even though he leads the team in total touchdowns, his 46.2% catch rate leaves plenty to be desired.
Considering his unlimited upside, however, the Chiefs are right not to worry about Worthy.
