The Kansas City Chiefs are coming out of their bye week after a 5-0 start as they prepare for their Week 7 clash against the San Francisco 49ers. Despite unexpected injuries to key offensive players to start the season, the Chiefs haven't skipped a beat.

One of the biggest question marks arose when Isiah Pacheco fractured his fibula in Week 2 and was placed on injured reserve. The Chiefs quickly brought back Kareem Hunt and signed him to the practice squad. He got his first snaps in Week 4 and quickly leapfrogged rookie Carson Steele and veteran Samaje Perine in the depth chart.

Head coach Andy Reid recently praised Hunt ahead of the Week 7 matchup, signaling a reduced workload for Steele.

Steele already only played in 18% and 19% of offensive snaps in the last two games after seeing 62% in Week 3. He struggled with ball security, fumbling three times in his last four games. Hunt, on the other hand, got 28 touches for a total of 117 yards from scrimmage against the Saints in Week 5, capping his performance with a touchdown.

"We started him off relatively slow and then increased it, and he was able to handle both of those things. We’ll just see how the game goes, but I feel comfortable with him carrying the ball."

With Clyde Edwards-Helaire slated to return in Week 7 and Perine already seeing more snaps than Steele, the rookie rusher out of UCLA will likely have his role marginalized for the immediate future. However, he is still only 21 years old and has enough upside and the Chiefs should continue to give him a close look going forward.
