Andy Reid Makes First Comments on Chiefs' Unexpected Trade Addition
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs made a surprise trade on Monday, adding pass-rushing LB Josh Uche from the Patriots for a 2026 sixth-round pick. Andy Reid spoke about the acquisition on Monday, revealing his first comments on the big move.
Reid sounds excited to add another difference-maker to what's already the NFL's best defense. Uche had 11.5 sacks just two years ago and hasn't yet completed his rookie deal.
To get a player with Uche's promise is thrilling, especially considering he gets to play alongside Chris Jones, George Karlaftis, Mika Danna, Tershawn Wharton and soon, Charles Omenihu.
Andy Reid Breaks Silence on Josh Uche Trade
"It helps the secondary any pressure you can put on the quarterback," Reid said. "We understand you take care of business up front, it helps everybody."
It's an interesting point to make given Kansas City's apparent need at cornerback. Instead of adding a defensive back at the deadline, it sounds like Reid and Brett Veach instead want to ramp up the pressure at the line of scrimmage.
If the team can pressure the quarterback, the secondary won't need to play as well. Perhaps the Chiefs surveyed the landscape of available corners and didn't like the market. At the least, it seems Uche was a better fit at this immediate juncture.
Kansas City could still make another move though Reid's pointed comments suggest they intend to dominate at the line of scrimmage to ensure opposing passers can't properly operate. Uche is a dynamic talent with huge upside, while most of the available cornerbacks are aging with various respective red flags.
Reid is excited to see Uche on the field regardless and Chiefs fans should feel the exact same way.
