The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to return to the Super Bowl in 2025 and they’ll need their full cast to get there. After a year where the Chiefs won many games by the skin of their teeth, having a healthy and productive team will be key to make their way through the AFC once again.
The Chiefs made several moves to get there during this offseason, but their health will be key. With that in mind, head coach Andy Reid delivered an encouraging update on two returning players that will have major roles next season and how soon they’ll be able to take the field.
Andy Reid Says Rashee Rice, Josh Simmons Will Be Ready for Chiefs Training Camp
Reid addressed reporters following the conclusion of the Chiefs’ minicamp on Thursday and updated the status of wide receiver Rashee Rice and rookie offensive tackle Josh Simmons. While both players suffered season-ending injuries last fall, Reid said that both players will be ready to go when the Chiefs begin training camp next month.
Josh Simmons and Rashee Rice are ready to go for training camp, per Coach Reid. Great news.

This is big news for the Chiefs offense. Rice was off to a strong start in his sophomore season after catching 24 passes for 288 yards and a pair of touchdowns over the first two games. But his year came to an end when he collided with Patrick Mahomes on an interception return and he missed Kansas City’s run to the Super Bowl after suffering a knee injury.
Getting Rice back will be crucial for a team that will also depend on second-year playmaker Xavier Worthy and veteran Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in the starting lineup. But it might pale in comparison to the arrival of Simmons.
Simmons was the 32nd overall pick in April’s draft despite suffering a torn patellar tendon during his final year at Ohio State. While Simmons was still recovering from the injury during the Chiefs’ offseason program, he was able to find his way onto the field during minicamp and should contend for a starting role at left or right tackle with free-agent pickup Jaylon Moore and incumbent right tackle Jawaan Taylor.
Rice could still miss the start of next season as he could face disciplinary action related to a 2024 hit-and-run. But having him and Simmons healthy is a huge boost for the Chiefs to begin training camp. With their mind on another championship, Rice and Simmons project to play big roles for the Chiefs next season.
