Andy Reid Gives Big Update on Chiefs Signing Fans Are Desperate to See Play
The Kansas City Chiefs' left tackle play has been an issue all season. Both Wanya Morris and rookie Kingsley Suamataia have failed to protect Patrick Mahomes' blind side. They found a solution to the problem, though fans will have to wait a while longer to see him on the field.
Suamataia's struggles through his rookie season ultimately led to him being a healthy scratch in Week 11. This led to speculation that the Cheifs were done with Suamataia, at least for this season. Yet, Andy Reid stood by the decision to sit him, citing it was a learning experience.
Despite Reid's words, the Chiefs signed left tackle D.J. Humphries on November 22nd. The former Pro Bowl tackle remained on the open market for so long due to recovery from an ACL tear.
Humphries signing a contract with a pre-existing injury left questions about when he will take his first snaps as a Chief.
According to Pete Sweeney, Reid spoke about this during his Wednesday press conference, saying Humphries looks healthy but was unwilling to give a timetable for his return.
Reid's remarks are both positive and negative for Chiefs fans. On one hand, hearing that Humphries looks healthy is good since he will provide reinforcement on the offensive line.
On the other hand, Reid not providing a timetable for return is worrisome. If Humphries was truly healthy, there may not be a timetable for his debut. There being no timetable could mean Humphries either still has healing to do or he needs to get back in football shape. Potentially, he's still learning the system.
Either way, hopefully, Reid will have a more positive update in the coming weeks as Humphries returning before the playoffs would be the best-case scenario. Chiefs fans certainly hope they'll see him as soon as possible.
