5. Marquise Brown, WR
The addition of Marquise Brown was one of the Chiefs' biggest moves last offseason. The veteran playmaker had racked up nearly 3,800 yards with 28 touchdown catches in his first five NFL seasons, leaving KC fans fantasizing about the amount of damage the speedster could do with Mahomes under center.
Brown's Chiefs debut was put on hold, though, due to a preseason shoulder injury. The former 2019 first-round pick only ended up being healthy enough for two regular-season appearances, converting 9-of-15 targets for 91 receiving yards without a score. His postseason run wasn't anything to write home about either as he tallied a 5-50-0 stat line in three games.
While missing the majority of the regular season likely played a role in Brown's uninspiring performance, it doesn't change that he didn't live up to expectations. He's now set to hit free agency again in March, and there's no telling if the Chiefs have seen enough of him to warrant a re-signing.
This year's free agent class has plenty of talented wideouts, including Stefon Diggs, Tee Higgins, Chris Godwin, and more. There's a good chance that the Chiefs can replace Brown with a wideout boasting higher upside, even if general manager Brett Veach must get creative with the salary cap situation.
As great as Brown can be, his recent medical history makes him too much of an unknown to trust with getting the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl. Some one-year experiments don't work out at the end of the day, and this looks like one of them.
