4 Chiefs on Thin Ice After Bye Week
By Joe Summers
3. Kingsley Suamataia - LT
The second-round rookie opened the year as the starting left tackle but fell out of favor quickly, ceding the role to Wanya Morris over the last few weeks. Kingsley Suamataia is still considered the future starter, though his early struggles were too much to keep him on the field.
Trey Hendrickson of the Bengals dominated in Week 2, prompting the decision to go to Morris. Pro Football Focus gives Suamataia a 41.2 overall grade thus far as he surrendered six pressures on 68 snaps, giving up two sacks and committing three penalties in the process.
It's not an ideal start by any means. There's time to turn things around, yet Morris still has a chance to hold onto the job.
Suamataia's athleticism and pulling ability were still on display in Week 1. If he can develop more confidence and more consistent technique, it's easy to imagine him protecting Patrick Mahomes' blindside for years.
For now, it sounds like the Chiefs are sticking with Morris, forcing Suamataia to develop in practice in hopes of regaining the job.
