3 More Trades Chiefs Still Need to Make After Adding DeAndre Hopkins

The Kansas City Chiefs should not be done on the trade market just yet.

The Kansas City Chiefs finally made the move fans have been waiting for and traded for a wide receiver. On Wednesday morning, it was reported that the Chiefs acquired veteran pass-catcher DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick.

As home run of a trade as this was, the Kansas City Chiefs should continue being active on the trade market. Despite the 6-0 start, the Chiefs can't afford to get complacent. With the Nov. 5 trade deadline looming, GM Brett Veach has to address a few more weaknesses on the team. Let's take a look at some of their potential next moves.

Trade for CB Greg Newsome II

L'Jarius Sneed likely regrets leaving Kansas City for the 1-5 Titans but Chiefs fans are also wishing that they still had the talented cornerback. The Chiefs received the terrible news earlier this week Jaylen Watson will undergo surgery for a broken ankle and will likely miss the rest of the season.

After emerging as the No. 2 cornerback for the Chiefs this season, Watson has been playing well opposite Trent McDuffie. Now, it will likely be Nazeeh Johnson taking the starting role in his stead. He has shown flashes in limited opportunities but whether the former seventh-rounder is ready still remains to be seen.

This makes trading for a high-level cornerback an intriguing move for the Chiefs. Greg Newsome II of the Cleveland Browns is arguably the best defensive back currently on the market. After the Browns' 1-6 start, they already started a fire sale, moving on from Amari Cooper last week. Considering their dire financial situation, they will likely continue being sellers at the deadline.

Newsome will play on his fifth-year option in 2025 and the Chiefs will have to give him a long-term extension. We already know how Brett Veach feels about extending backfield defenders. Even for a short-term rental, the Chiefs might not be able to do better than Newsome. The 24-year-old has been a solid starter in Cleveland for the past 3.5 years, receiving a PFF grade of over 68 in each of his NFL seasons so far.
