3 Chiefs Who Will Be Cut Without a Strong Second Half of Season
2. Cameron Thomas, DE
After a failed run with the Arizona Cardinals, Cameron Thomas was acquired by the Chiefs at the end of August. It seemed like a risk worth taking. After all, the 24-year-old pass rusher is a former 2022 third-round pick who displayed some decent promise as a former Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year.
Unfortunately, Thomas hasn't really done much this season. For starters, the ex-San Diego State product has spent more games as a healthy scratch (5) than he's played (4), hinting that Andy Reid's coaching staff might not see a whole lot of upside in him.
Secondly, Thomas has failed to make the most out of any opportunities he's received. He's yet to make a single tackle either on defense or special teams and is currently carrying a career-worst 31.8 defense grade on Pro Football Focus.
Thomas is still under contract for 2025, however, it remains to be seen if he'll hang around for that long. According to Spotrac, his entire $1.4 million salary will come off the books if they waive or trade him in the offseason.
With how important cap space is in today's NFL, it's a move the Chiefs will seriously consider if Thomas doesn't make an impact in the coming months.
