The Kansas City Royals won a thrilling game on Wednesday night and once again, Salvador Perez had the game-winning hit. It’s becoming a trend, isn’t it?

Down 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Kansas City Royals persevered.

First, Jarrod Dyson (man, it’s good to have the speedy outfielder back in Kansas City) stole second base and then was sacrificed to third base. Nicky Lopez then got Dyson home, which tied the game.

Of course at this point, most Royals fans figured extra innings would be happening and Kauffman Stadium would finally get to see the runner on second rule that happens in extras now in an effort to speed the game up. Well, the Royals didn’t feel like playing extra innings and Salvador Perez was the one who said no thanks to that.

After Carlos Santana was intentionally walked (he had hit a two-run homer earlier in the game), Perez stepped up to the plate and singled to left, scoring Lopez and walking it off for the boys in blue.

Salvador Perez came to the rescue for the Kansas City Royals once again.

This was an exciting win for the Royals and showed their feistiness. It’s still very early in the season and it can easily go downhill from here, but let’s be honest — The past few traditional seasons have seen the Royals out of contention by the time summer arrives. That shouldn’t be the case this year, as this team can make things interesting. Perez’s heroics are a big reason why this team is where they are right now.

On Saturday against the Blue Jays, Perez was also the one who ended the game, homering to walk things off in the bottom of the seventh (it was the second game of a doubleheader). He’s been clutch for the Royals this year and is showing he was more than worthy of the extension he signed with the team prior to the 2021 season getting underway.

Perez is currently slashing .279/.329/.559 with five home runs and 12 RBI. He’s continued to be the leader on offense and still has near-perfect defense behind the dish.

If the Royals want to get back to the postseason, Perez needs to continue to be one of the biggest driving forces for this team. That hasn’t been a problem for him so far.
