Bill Barnwell of ESPN wants the KC Chiefs to trade with the Eagles in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Barnwell put together a list of trades that every team in the NFL should consider making in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft and had the Chiefs swapping spots with the Eagles. This would jump the Kansas City Chiefs from the No. 31 pick to the No. 12 pick, where Barnwell says they’d then have their pick of any offensive tackle not named Penei Sewell.

The Chiefs would receive the No. 12 overall pick and a 2022 fifth-rounder while sending the No. 31 pick along with their second-rounder, 2022 second-round pick, and Mecole Hardman to Philadelphia.

"A lot of teams in the NFL will try to pretend at one point or another that they’re one player away from winning the Super Bowl. The Chiefs might actually have been one good left tackle away from back-to-back titles, given how quickly their offense fell apart without Eric Fisher against the Buccaneers. This would be a lot to give up for one player, but the Chiefs might think left tackle is just that important. By getting ahead of the Chargers and Vikings, Kansas City could have its pick of the non-Penei Sewell left tackles in the class."

First off, they likely wouldn’t have a shot at Rashawn Slater by this point either, as he’s a top 10 prospect and should be off the board before pick 12. Christian Darrisaw would likely still be available though, so if the Chiefs found him worthy of trading up for, he’d be who they’d go with, in all likelihood.

I’m all for a good draft trade, but this one doesn’t make much sense. Yes, Kansas City would get Darrisaw or maybe even Slater, but it’s a lot to give up. For a team that has a lot of money invested in their quarterback and other players, it’s really important to make the most out of their draft picks and this would take that opportunity away.

Mecole Hardman being traded to Philly wouldn’t bother me, as he’s failed to develop during his two years with the Chiefs. The Eagles could certainly use him too, as they’re desperate for receivers in the City of Brotherly Love.

Bill Barnwell wants the KC Chiefs to move up to the No. 12 pick in the draft.

If the Chiefs were to make any kind of move on draft night, it’d likely be to move out of the first round. They shouldn’t give up a ton of picks to move into the Eagles’ spot when there will be some decent options still available late in the first round.

Should Kansas City make a move like this, however,  then I’ll trust that it was the right decision. Having a reliable left tackle can’t be understated and the Chiefs experienced that first hand in Super Bowl LV, so if they have a chance to land one they really want, they very well might give up this kind of a haul to land the guy they think could help their team prevail.

What do you think, Chiefs fans? Would you want to see the team make this kind of trade or would you stay far away from making a deal like this?
